Method #01 – Internet and LAN Settings

1. Step #01 – Launch Internet Explorer (IE) with administrator privileges. For those who don’t know how to run IE with administrator privileges, right click on the IE icon and select “Run as administrator”. (As shown in the screenshot) Please note that running IE as administrator is important!
2. Step #02 – Go to “Tools”.
3. Step #03 – From the drop-down list, select “Internet Options”. This will open Internet Options window.
4. Step #04 – In the “Internet Options” menu window, go to a “Connections” tab.
5. Step #05 – Now in the “Local Area Network (LAN) settings” section, you will see a “LAN Settings” button. Click on the button to open Local Area Network settings window.
6. Step #06 – Here in the LAN settings window you will see two sections and three checkboxes in total. In the Automatic configuration section, make sure that: “Automatically detect settings” checkbox is ticked.   “Use automatic configuration script” checkbox is unticked. In the Proxy server section, make sure that     “Use a proxy server for your LAN” checkbox is unticked. After changes, your LAN settings window should look exactly as shown in the screenshot above.
7. Step #07 – Once done, click on “OK” button to apply changes.
8. Step #08 – Now attempt to browse Internet to check if unable to connect to proxy server error has been resolved or not.

Method #02 – Reset IP Settings Through Command Prompt

In this method, we will use command prompt to reset the Internet Protocol (IP) settings of your current Internet connection as well as obtain new IP address from the DHCP server.

Step #01 – Click on the Start menu button and type “cmd” to search for a cmd command prompt.

Step #02 – On the Start menu, the search results will return cmd under the Programs tab. Right click on the “cmd” and click on “Run as administrator”.

Step #03 – Now Windows will prompt you to confirm if you really want to launch Command Prompt with administrator privileges to make changes to the computer. Simply click on “Yes” button to launch command prompt as administrator.

Step #04 – You will now see a Command Prompt window. All you have to do now is to type the following three commands into the command prompt window one by one, and then press enter to execute it. The commands are:

·         ipconfig /release

·         ipconfig /renew

·         ipconfig /flushdns

For those who are concerned about what these commands does to your computer, please read the following:

·         ipconfig /release command will release your current IP info and obtain a new IP information from the DHCP server.

·         Ipconfig /renew command will renew your IP address information if your Internet settings are configured to obtain IP address automatically.

·         Ipconfig /flushdns command will clear the current DNS Resolver Cache Logs stored in your computer.

Step #05 – Once all three of the commands are successfully executed. You may now attempt to try to browse the Internet to check your Internet connectivity, and if unable to connect to proxy server error has been resolved or not.

Method #03 – Modifying Internet and LAN Settings via Safe Mode

If the above two methods didn’t worked then we will suggest you to try this method #03. Attempting this method accurately should solve your problem.

Step #01 – Open “Run” command by simultaneously pressing “Windows key” and “R” key on your keyboard.

Step #02 – Once the Run command box has been opened, type “msconfig” and click on the “OK” button to launch System Configuration window.

Step #03 – From the System Configuration window; go to a “Boot” tab.

Step #04 – Under the “Boot options” section, there will be a “Safe boot” checkbox. Put a tick on the checkbox to force operating system to boot into a Safe Mode. (As shown in the screenshot)

Step #05 – Click on the “Apply” button and then on the “OK” button to confirm changes.

Step #06 – Restart your computer. You will notice that the system has been restarted into a Safe Mode automatically.

Step #07 – Now what you have to do is follow Step #01 up to Step #07 mentioned in the Method #01 above. Once done, come back here to continue further.

Step #08 – Now we once again have to go to the System Configuration menu to revert the changes we did to the “Boot options” section in the Step #04.

So, open “Run” prompt box by simultaneously pressing “Windows key” + “R” key. Then type “msconfig” and press enter to launch System Configuration window.

Go to “Boot” tab. Now untick the “Safe boot” checkbox. Click on the “Apply” button and then on the “OK” button to confirm changes.

Step #09 – Restart your computer to boot normally. Now you can attempt to browse the Internet to check if the unable to connect to proxy server error has been resolved or not.
